Plug Cutter and Countersink Set
This tool works very well to fill loose or broken knots in wood or to repair damaged spots. You can also make your own side-grain plugs, perfectly matched, from the wood of your choice.
Important: To use the plug cutter, one needs to use a drill press and to clamp the wood firmly, as there is no pilot bit to guide the cutter. The counter sink can be used free hand. But, for instance when you must drill near a very small or loose knot, or in splintered wood, where the drill bit might wander, it is better to use a drill press, like with the plug cutter.

The plug cutter can also be used as a peg cutter for small pegs up to 25 mm (1 inch). We have had good results cutting end grain in larch wood.

These sets are good for people who are not looking to make large quantities of plugs or pegs, but who would find it useful to cut a few from time to time. Made in Japan.

All cutters and countersinks have a shaft diameter of 6.35 mm (1/4 inch)

VERITAS Power Tenon Cutters (Regular/Standard Type)

VERITAS Power Tenon Cutters For anyone building rustic furniture, the Veritas aluminum-body tenon cutters will cut smooth, perfect tenons with radiused shoulders. Cutters are designed to run vibration-free while being driven by an electric drill, yet still yield the same accuracy when used with a hand brace. The smaller tenon cutters (5/8 to 1 in.) can be used in a hand brace with our Tenon cutter Brace Adaptor. The anodized body has been balanced to eliminate vibration and an integral level vial makes in-line cutting more accurate. Enlargement

To increase safety, the back end of the blade is contoured to avoid anything extending beyond the revolving aluminum body. The body has a built-in honing guide for easy sharpening of blades on a drill-press mounted drum sander (see right). The blade is adjustable to cut the exact size of tenon required in both dry and green wood. Instructions

Available in eight cutting diameters. Sizes 5/8 in. to 1 in. cut 2-3/4 in. long tenons and are typically used for most rustic furniture. Sizes 1-1/4 in. to 2 in. will cut 4-1/4 in. long tenons and are used for larger structural connections, such as bed frame to post, or fence rail to post. All sizes have hex shanks; sizes 5/8 in. to 1 in. have a shank of 8 mm and are for use in an electric drill with a 3/8 in. (or larger) chuck. Sizes 1-1/4 in. to 2 in., which require more torque to drive, have a shank of 11 mm and are for use in larger electric drills with a 1/2 in. (or larger) chuck.

Recommendation:
The traditional rustic look fit of joints made with the Veritas Standard Tenon Cutter appears even more natural, when the corresponding holes are tapered with the Veritas Taper Reamer.

VERITAS Mini Tenon Cutter
Veritas developed these smaller-diameter tenon cutters for use with small stock. Available in six cutting diameters from 1/4 in. to 9/16 in. (6.3 mm to 14.3 mm). The 9/16 in. tenon is the size used historically for chair rungs. The other sizes (1/4 in. to 1/2 in.) are useful in many areas, e.g., members within trellis or lattice work.

All sizes have a straight blade that cuts a 60 ° shoulder tenon (not a radiused shoulder tenon as on the larger sizes).

The 1/4 in., 5/16 in. and 3/8 in. sizes cut tenons up to 1 in. (25.4 mm) long.
The 7/16 in., 1/2 in. and 9/16 in. sizes cut tenons up to 1-3/8 in. (34.9 mm) long.

A plug gauge is included for easy blade setting.

Veritas Tapered Tenon Joinery System

Veritas Tapered Tenon Joinery System To make simple, fast work of mortise-and-tenon joinery, this system uses power tenon cutters and matching countersinks to produce strong flush-fitting joints in round or dimensioned stock. The cutters produce a symmetrical tenon with a 60° tapered shoulder that fits neatly in a countersunk socket. The main blade shapes the tenon and shoulder, while a finishing blade smoothes the tenon to a consistent diameter and cuts a slight relief at the base of the shoulder to ensure it seats flush. The finishing blade's cutting depth is adjustable, so you can fine-tune the tenon diameter for close fit.

Cutting capacity for all sizes is 1-1/2" greater than the tenon diameter. Sizes 5/8" to 1" cut 2" long tenons (not including the tapered shoulder) and are for use in drills with a 3/8" or larger chuck. Sizes 1-1/4" to 2" cut 3" tenons and are for use in drills with a 1/2" or larger chuck. All have hex shanks and anodized bodies, and can be used in an electric drill or hand brace (not for use in a drill press).

To shape the tenon socket to match the tenon shoulder, Veritas offers two sizes of countersinks, each with interchangeable bushings sized to match our tenon cutters.

The small countersink comes with 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", and 1" bushings; the large comes with 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 1-3/4", and 2" bushings.
